We went on a scenic drive and quick hike through Red Rock Canyon right before sunset. It is surprising how incredibly close this beautiful place is to Vegas, yet it feels a world away.
R ed Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is located just a few miles west of Las Vegas and encompasses 195,819 acres within the Mojave Desert. This beautiful place features a one-way 13-mile scenic drive, hiking and trails, plants and wildlife, geology, camping, cultural resources and much more. If you’re ever staying in Vegas, I highly recommend driving out to see it!
We got there a little bit late in the day, so we didn’t have much time to hike, but even just doing the scenic drive was worth it! We were able to explore the highs and lows of the canyon from our car, with many scenic stops and and trailheads along the way. The sunset was very beautiful, as the lights of Las Vegas glowed in the distance. It truly feels like you are in the middle of the wilderness, yet the city is just there.
The BLM’s Red Rock Canyon website has additional information for all sorts of activities. Have a fun and safe visit!
